Test Colours & Graphics

Test Colours & Graphics is a powerful tool that is built right into the VZones software. With it you can test paint codes, see how you'd look with a different head or body, try new accessories, and so on. It's pretty easy to use once you get used to it. It's a good idea to test a new paint code using this before having a custom can made. Sometimes codes don't look exactly the same inworld as they do in Kenn's Painter.

The Test Colours & Graphics Window

avatar menu screenshotTo open the Test Colours & Graphics Window, click on what you want to test, and choose Test Colours & Graphics from the menu. In this case we will be working with body codes, so click on your avatar's body (make sure you aren't clicking on any accessories you are wearing). If you've done it correctly, you should see your avatar name on the top of the menu window.

Once you click on Test Colours & Graphics, the window will open.

Test Colours & Graphics windowThe top part of the window deals with paint codes. The small boxes with the numbers correspond to the numbers in the paint code. The entire paint code is in the box below.

To try out a new code, select the entire code in the text box and either type or paste in the new code that you want to test. Once you have the code in there, click Modify. (You may need to move the box out of the way to see your avatar - to do that click and hold the mouse button down on the title bar of the window and just drag the window where you want it.) You should now see what you would look like with those paints.

You can edit codes in this window as well. You can use the individual color boxes at the top, or you can replace numbers within the code by selecting them and typing in a new number. The code maps the same way here as it does in Kenn's Painter. For body paint codes, the top row of numbers usually correspond to the lower part of the body's clothing (pants, skirts) the middle row to the skin, and the bottom row to the top part of the clothing (shirt). For some bodies the mapping is not quite the same so you may have to play with it some to understand how codes will work on the body you have. If you like what you see while editing, make sure you copy the code because it will be lost once you click Quit and close the box.

Have you ever wanted to see how a certain body would look on your avatar before buying it? You can do that here. The box below where it says Graphic Image for ... contains the image code for the body you are wearing. To try out a new one, just type or paste an img code into that box and click Modify. about boxOnce you do that, you can use rotate to turn around, but I find it a little creepy because it only rotates the thing you are testing. So if you are testing a new body img file it will turn but your head won't. There is a way to get around this.

help menuWhile the Test Colours & Graphics window is open, click on the Help menu on the main VZones window and choose About VZones... When the box opens, click OK. Now you can walk, turn, and use gestures while testing out the body. If you leave the locale you are in, the Test Colours & Graphics window will close and you will return to your real appearance.

For current AW bodies, you can go into the AvatarWares Showroom and open the Test Colours & Graphics window on the body you are interested in and copy the img code from there. If it is a body that isn't in there, you can do the same if you see an avatar who is wearing that body.

For heads and accessories or other items, you follow the same steps making sure you click on the item you want to test.
