Updated Language Policy
Due to the ongoing problems with language in
newHorizone, the rules on
acceptable language have been updated. These rules replace any previous
rules or guidelines, written or implied by current or past staff.
newHorizone is considered to be a "family friendly" environment which means
that kids are both allowed and welcomed. As such, language that is deemed
to be "inappropriate" for kids will not be tolerated.
Please understand that children are not the only ones that are affected by
inappropriate language. Many adults do not appreciate seeing it displayed
in open text either.
newHorizone has many members from many different countries. What is
considered "inappropriate language" in one part of the Real World is not
necessarily considered inappropriate in another. Because of this, the rules
are set at a higher standard to be deemed more appropriate for people from
all over.
Most people are fully aware of what is and what is not acceptable in a
"family friendly" environment. There is no way that we could give a
complete list of words, uses and connotations that would be deemed
"unacceptable."
If there is a problem with your language, TMA or URL, you will be told that
it needs to be changed. Failure to do so will lead to being powered. You
will be given fair warning before you are powered so that you have the
opportunity to comply with the rules.
If the problem continues and you are unwilling to comply with the rules, it
will be escalated to support and management. The ability to change your TMA
and URL can be removed. You can be placed on "observer only" status. Your
account can be cancelled.
It's very simple. Everyone is being given the warning, right now, that the
rules on language in newHorizone have changed and will be acted upon and
enforced. Those that decide to "test the waters" will find out that this is
a change that all the staff and management is fully behind, all the way to
the top. It is a change that has been requested by a large number of members
and is long overdue.
