Break Out

Queen Fesora became every more melancholy over the situation at hand. She had a lost child, a sister who was a wolf, and years of missed memories and opportunities. All this on top of the fact that Gast was forever in pursuit of her throne. Fortan and Dorran comforted her as best they could, but the Queen was hardly consolable.

She had read the diary discovered on the last quest, and she now knew that her sister, Isabella, had not been the rival she had imagined. In fact, it was Isabella who had rescued her child from danger temporarily, and according to reports from the Questors, had paid the price of having been turned into a wolf for these many years.

The Queen insisted that the wolf be found and that Sentira be set free from prison. She needed to know all that could be known about her missing child and her enchanted sister. So the Questors set off ... Milo led the way. As he had traveled in his secret path so many times as a mouse, Milo preferred to be a mouse once more for this journey. He led questors into a secret opening in the dark forest and through a secret tunnel. Unfortunately, there was a cave-in. The questors could still proceed into the tunnel ... but not out.

Milo Leads the Way Through the Cave-In

Once they found Sentira and the wolf in Gast's prison, the problem was to find a way out. Luckily one of the prisoners had been digging tunnels which proved a good start at escape. Inside the fresh tunnel, mumbled voices could be heard through the walls. The party tried to avoid capture, so they proceeded onward in the darkness. Soon they came to a locked door marked only with the words "King Gast." There was nothing to do but return.

In the room where mumbled voices could be heard, some loose stones were pushed away making a tiny opening into Gast's Hall. There the questors overhead Gast and Fortuno. Fortuno admitted that he had put the baby into the care of an elderly couple. He persuaded them that he had lost his wife and needed help with his tiny child. They gladly cared for the baby and Fortuno often came to visit ... mostly to keep an eye on his investment. But when the couple died, the boy set out to seek his fortune and Fortuno lost track of him. The evil duo were anxious to find the formula to transform Isabella back into human form so they could see if she knew anything of his whereabouts.

After Gast and Fortuno left the hall, the questing party were free to look around. In the guards room, they found a combination code book. And elsewhere they found they key to today's combination code. With that information they could pass through the locked portal.

Unfortunately, another problem lay ahead. The room behind the locked portal contained the remains of many failed questors. One had written a note warning questors not to procede through the ancient portals in the room without some clues to guide them. A key found in that room opened the door to Fortuno's chamber back in Gast's Lair. In the room was a glowing skull which gave clues to find the way through the old portal puzzle.

At the end of the portals, Sentira, Milo, and the wolf awaited the questing party. Sentira had found Stone of Transfomation in Fortuno's chamber. The party quickly returned to the queen.

Queen Fesora was elated to find her sister ... even if she were currently a wolf. She begged Fortan to try to disenchant her.

Fortan and Milo did the best they could to restore Isabella to human form. And they were partly successful.

But alas, the transformation did not hold. Fortuno cast the spell, and Fortan could not totally undo it.

The Queen kept asking Isabella to tell her the child's name. Isabella managed to tell her that she had given the child the same name that Fesora had picked out ... the name of one of their illustrious kings. But unfortunately, when she tried to speak the name of the child, she could only say " M...." before she returned to the wolf form.

Queen Fesora gave Isabella the best of care. Fortan and Milo set about studying the problem. Dorran and Sentira concerned themselves with the security of the castle. After all, they had the prize Gast most sought.

The story continues ...
