Disenchanting Tale

For the first time in quite some time, things were looking up for Queen Fesora. They had successfully rescued Isabella from the clutches of Gast, gained possession of the transformation stone and Gast’s cronies seemed to be in retreat, as there had been no attempt to recover her as of yet. Although, all of that was about to change.

Fesora’s ray of light was quickly shadowed by the dire news that Fortan and Milo were unable to break the spell that had transformed her sister and only with a full account of Fortuno’s actions could such a thing be done.

As Fesora came to terms with this news, Walganus who was followed closely by Dorran and Sentira suddenly interrupted them. Dorran and Sentira had captured Gast’s right-hand troll sneaking around in the castle grounds.

Without much effort, they were able to pry information out of the beast. He disclosed that Fortuno had an old spell chamber and that is where Gast and his followers had retreated.

Fortan realised that the spell chamber must have been the location that Fortuno had cast the original spell on Isabella. He had gone back to retrace his steps. If they were ever going to get the information they needed to break the spell, then that is where they needed to go.

In a sudden moment of insanity, Walganus caught his captors unaware and was able to make his escape. Before the guards could go after him, Fortan held them back and suggested that they let me go. They knew he would go straight back to Gast and Fortuno would be with him. He would lead them to the spell chamber!

Milo agreed to stay back and protect Isabella and Fesora. It would be far too dangerous to leave the castle unguarded at such a perilous time.

The others carefully followed Walganus into the depths of the dark forest, until they reached an ancient region known to only as, the "Bewildering Forest".

Walganus was clearly seen with a scrap of paper that he seemed to be studying closely. Dimmitri ^º^ being small in size, was able to sneak a quick glance over the troll’s shoulder without him noticing. The note contained several riddles written by Fortuno, which seemed to serve as a guide through the forest. It wasn’t long before they lost sight of Walganus amongst the tangled branches, but with the aid of Fortuno’s note they eventually managed to pass through the labyrinth of trees, brambles and weeds.

At the foot of a large oak, at the edge of the forest, they discovered a stone staircase leading down into the earth. Cautiously they descended down into the ancient, troll-infested sanctum of Fortuno.

Dorran and Sentira took care of the troll guarding the corridor and allowed Baby Dolly to pass down the narrow passageway unhindered.

The passageway was filled with old bottles, rusted boxes and storage barrels. After a thorough search Baby Dolly discovered a key in one of the bottles and was able to gain access to a room with four trolls!

The BEAST, being a troll himself was able to enter the room without causing any commotion. In the corner of the room was a glowing red stone. When he reached out to touch it, it spoke to him and led him to the bats in the passageway outside. He poked at one of the bats hanging from the ceiling and it flew away, unveiling a small crack in the wall.

Once again, Dimmitri ^º^’s small size came into play and he was able to squeeze through the crack and came out in Fortuno’s private gallery.

There were four buttons on the wall. It appeared they needed to be pressed in some kind of order. Using the knowledge he had obtained so far, he was able to solve the combination and the painting upon the wall slid aside to expose a small compartment with a key.

The key unlocked the library door and inside Phaze came face-to-face with a troll, who decided to play a game with her. He was very annoyed that somebody or something had been eating his books. If she was able to catch the culprit he promised not to eat her and let her pass. Left with little choice, Phaze looked behind several books, and found a tiny book worm gnawing at the parchment. The troll kept his word and Phaze went down a flight of stairs and entered the spell chamber.

Inside they found Fortuno’s spell scroll and now stood a very good chance of transforming Isabella back to her former self. Fortan sent word to Milo to bring her and the transformation stone to the spell chamber at nightfall.

Milo and Isabella arrived later than expected, as they had bought along an unexpected companion... Fesora! She had insisted on joining them, to make sure her sister was safe and everything went as planned.

They didn’t waste any time. Fortan got Milo to bring forth the transformation stone and place it on the altar, but before they could begin the room was ambushed by Fortuno, Gast, Mildrede, Walganus and numerous trolls guards. It had been a trap! Walganus had led the party to Fortuno on purpose.

Walganus grabbed Isabella as Fortuno took control and began to read out the transformation spell.

Isabella looked at her sister, and at the stone upon the altar. If Fortuno succeeded in turning her back, he would finally learn the location of the heir. He was a sorcerer and even if she refused to speak, he could use magic to loosen her lips.

As Fortuno was about to read the final line of the spell, Isabella leaped up at the altar, knocking the stone to the ground. The stone shattered into a dozen pieces.

Fortuno was horrified. How would they learn the location of the heir now? She had destroyed the only chance of returning her to a human state.

Amidst the shock and confusion Dorran and Sentira saw their chance and were able to fight back. Gast and his allies were overpowered and fled back out into the forest, vowing to get their revenge.

Fesora could not believe her sister had done such a courageous and selfless act to protect her son, yet now there was no way to turn her back.

As things looked their darkest, Milo stepped forth, taking the transformation stone out of his pocket. He admitted he had spotted Mildrede out of the corner of his eye as they entered the spell chamber. Because they were being watched he dared not say anything but had placed a common Medalith stone, from master Fortan’s lessons upon the altar, knowing that if they should try anything, the spell would not work and Fortuno would have to give up. Fesora was overwhelmed and Fortan had never been so proud of his apprentice.

Wasting no more time, Milo placed the real transformation stone upon the altar and Fortan read out the amended spell. Instantly Isabella was freed from her wolf-like form and was human once again.

Fesora was thrilled, she finally had her sister back! They had so many years to catch up on. Before they made their way back to the safety of the castle, Isabella answered a question that had been plaguing Fesora for a very long time. What was her son’s name? He had been name Renti after Fesora’s wish to name her first son after King Marentius. Fesora asked if she knew where he was. Isabella lowered her head. She had accompanied Renti as he set out to seek his fortune. Recently they had ventured to the border’s of the Behemoth Mountains where they came under attack from a giant. Isabella had lept forward to defend him but was knocked unconscious and when she came to, Renti was no where to be seen.

Fortan rallied round Dorran and Sentira and they immediately decided to organize a search of the area for any sign of the heir.
