Mildrede was found abandoned as an infant outside the towns of the Second Kingdom. Her parents were not known, and when she was found she was surrounded by wolves. A kindly couple took her in, but the child grew more difficult to handle as she got older. At last, Fortan agreed to take Mildrede in as an apprentice to work with him and his male apprentice, Milo.

But even under the tuteledge of Fortan, Mildrede was hard to handle. She found a large book of evil spells and planned to run away from Fortan. To aid in her escape, she turned Milo into a dog and fled away with him. In her travels, she encountered the Warlord, Gast, and plotted with him to overthrow the kingdom.

A giant book of spells works with the citizens of the kingdom to overthrow Gast and turn the Sorceress into a weakling.
